The design is drawn by the person who’ll run your build, so every detail is worked out for a real site rather than just a pretty picture. You can start with a concept design: it’s an inexpensive way in, and it’s free when you go on to build with me.
Not everyone needs a bespoke design. Here are the cases where it genuinely pays for itself and gives you a home you’d never get from a catalogue.
You’ve been through dozens of standard layouts and every one is “almost, but not quite”. Let’s design the house that’s actually yours.
A slope, a narrow or long strip of land, a hillside with a view, a waterside plot — the house will sit on the ground as if it grew there.
A large family, a home office, a workshop, a guest wing, a separate entrance — we’ll design it around how you actually live.
If a ready-made design suits you, don’t overpay for a bespoke one. I’ll simply adapt a standard design to your plot and your habits. That’s quicker and cheaper — and I’ll say so plainly.
The design is led by the engineer who will then run your build. So the details that appear on paper are the ones the crews can actually put together on site — with no “we’ll sort that out later”.
The concept design is an inexpensive way in — and it’s free when you go on to build with me
We work out what you want, how you live now and how you’d like to live, and what the plot already gives you: the lie of the land, the views, the access, the neighbours, the orientation. A home starts with your life, not with a drawing that already exists.
I draw options for the layout and the exterior. You see how your life falls into place room by room, and we keep adjusting until it’s the one. The concept design is an inexpensive way in, and it’s free when you go on to build with me.
I build the house in 3D, so you see it before we break ground: the massing, the elevations, how it sits on the plot. We turn it around together and change on screen what would be expensive to change in concrete. We only start building once you’re happy with all of it.
I turn the concept into working drawings: construction details, materials, services — the documents you actually build from. From those I work out an exact estimate. You know the price before the first delivery of materials arrives.
Then comes the build, to your own design. I oversee every stage: I set the tasks for the specialist crews and check the construction details and the quality as we go. The person who drew the design is the one making sure it’s put together properly.
The design isn’t tied to a single material. We’ll choose it together, to suit your budget, the coastal climate and how you want to live in the house. Any of the options below can sit underneath your design.
Warm, sensibly priced and quick. The sweet spot for a permanent home.
Warm timber with almost no shrinkage and grain on show with no finish. For anyone who wants wood.
Warm, “breathing” ceramics on a monolithic frame. Natural and long-lasting.
The most solid and durable masonry there is. Dearer, but built to last for generations.
I’ll advise you based on your budget and the climate — with no hard sell. Just message me.
A material is a tool for the job, not something to argue about. We’ll pick the one that suits your house and your wallet best.
A bespoke design has real strengths and real limits. Hiding the second lot means letting you down later. Here it is as it stands.
No advertising. Compare them side by side — where a ready-made design honestly wins, and where there’s no substitute for a bespoke one.

| Fit to your plot | partial | complete |

You pay step by step, rather than facing one frightening figure. You start with an inexpensive concept design and only move on once you’re happy with it. If you go on to build with me, the concept design costs you nothing.

Tell me about your plot and how you want to live, and I’ll work out what we could design, what it would cost and how long it would take. You write to me personally, and I answer personally. The site visit is free.
